This Sorta Deep Thought

Lately I've been asking myself the question, "what would it take for me to accept Jesus as the Son of God and as my Savior, if I was not now a Christian?"

Well, first I have to say that I'm really not aware of any discussions or people groups dialoging on this question, it just stands to chance that it popped up in my head one day, and since then I really can't shake it. It (this question) makes me really take a hard look at what Jesus came to be and do and if 'the Church' and specifically myself, are living closely to His example.

Why? Because we are suppossed to be the reflection of Christ in this world, and if Christian believers are wrapped up in stuff, themselves, their needs, their wants, their worship whims, then 'Houston we do have a problem.' No way would I come to Jesus because a church sends me a card in the mail, or it seems like a good thing to go to church, but I might ponder His proposition if someone in my life lived in the power and principles of Christ each day in front of me. I might just inquire about the difference, and I might be curious about this amazing loving kindness that is exemplified in my friend.

I suppose from time to time Christians can be real jerks, disconcerned, self-promoting and arrogant. I hate to even say that...yikes, but I will say this, if I were not a believer it would only take ONE person, to just care, to just accept me, to just love me for who I am and all my falts as a reflection of Christ - it would only take one to show me a better way, and then, maybe then I would invite Jesus to do radical surgery in my heart and life.

Which leads me to this question. Will I be, will you be, just one person who could change a life and eternal destiny for someone today? Consider this and ponder this, it could mean a life with Christ forever. Maybe this one deep thought should take presidence over DaVinci hoopla and worship style hysteria...don't ya think?

  • Good post Matt, I have come to the idea that it is through true friendship and just the idea of being their to lay yourself down for someone is the way to reach them. It's the way Chirst took to this word and I beleive the way we are called to do so as well.

Unfortunatly for me it is hard, as I would guess it might be for you to, working in a Christian enviroment, and knowing most of my friends from either work or church. Makes it tough.
